Today you can choose between one of two privately guided excursions. Option one: your driver guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to prehistoric Newgrange, a Stone Age monument in the Boyne Valley, County Meath. Newgrange was constructed over 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic period, making it older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Giza! Newgrange is a large circular mound with a stone passageway and chambers inside and is ringed by 97 large kerbstones. Though archaeologists classified Newgrange as a passage tomb, it may also be considered an ancient temple due to its astrological, spiritual, religious, and ceremonial importance. Option two: your driver guide will take you to visit the period country home of Lord Powerscourt and its wonderful gardens before continuing on a breathtaking drive through the stunning scenery of lakes, mountains, and valleys in County Wicklow. After lunch, you’ll see the 6th century monastic settlement of Glendalough, and enjoy more gorgeous scenery as you make your way back to Dublin.

This morning, say goodbye to Dublin and travel by way of train or rental car to the beautiful city of Galway (often referred to as the City of Tribes). Wander the winding promenades and enjoy the sea breeze or stroll down the cobbled streets among colorful façades of boutique shops. Bustling cafes and the Irish pub culture bring laughter, music, and traditional food to the city, which is also renowned for its fresh seafood (oysters, in particular). Continue to your charming 4-star centrally located hotel and perhaps enjoy an evening of live music at one of the local pubs or stroll the medieval Kirwan’s Lane and enjoy a seafood feast in Galway’s Latin Quarter before settling in at your lovely 4- or 5-star hotel for the night.

Today, you’ll visit the ferry port in Doolin and board a boat to one of the Aran Islands. Choose from Inis Mór, Inis Meáin, or Inis Oírr. Explore the island by bicycle or pony and trap. Upon your return, your ferry will pass below the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, providing the opportunity to see these amazing Cliffs from the ocean… a spectacular sight, indeed! Having seen the Cliffs from the ocean, now see them from land from the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre. The cliffs stretch for 5 miles and reach 702 feet at their highest point. At the Visitor Experience Centre, you can learn more about these majestic cliffs and view them up close on the hiking paths. This afternoon, drive through The Burren on your way back to Galway. The word “Burren” comes from the Irish word “Boíreann” (great rock), which describes the extent of exposed Limestone pavement throughout the area. Return to your charming hotel for the night.

You might stop at Kylemore Abbey and its six-acre Victorian walled garden. The Abbey sits at the base of Druchruach Mountain overlooking a reflective lake for some quintessential Irish scenery. Visit a local working Sheep Farm to meet the sheep and the border collie dogs in their natural environment. If visiting in the spring, you may even get to see the new baby lambs! On your final day in Ireland, start your morning with a visit to Birr Castle & Gardens, owned by the Parsons family (Earls of Rosse) since 1620 (open May through August). The award-winning gardens are both rich in amazing feats of science and engineering, as well as rare trees and flowers, wonderful wildlife, and peaceful walks along the rivers and lake. Continue to Leap Castle, considered the most haunted castle in the world. Built in the early 1500s, Leap Castle is home to many fascinating and sometimes horrific spirits. This afternoon, enjoy a private guided tour of the Irish National racehorse breeding center. For well over 100 years, this has been a working stud farm and the home of equine royalty, immaculately-bred stallions who can be seen and admired alongside protective mares, frolicking foals and athletic yearlings. Come to the stud and watch them in close quarters, then visit the widely-acclaimed museum. The stud is also home to some of Ireland’s finest natural treasures and the breathtakingly beautiful Japanese Gardens, the finest of their kind in Europe.
