The country of Wales (in the United Kingdom) truly is a hidden gem. Amazing adventures and stunning scenery set the scene for a family trip of a lifetime. You’ll find Wales to be somewhat “off the beaten path.” Between the beauty you’ll see, and the fun you’ll have, Wales is a country that allows you to truly disconnect from screens and reconnect to one another. The Welsh are very proud of being so and in most locations, you’ll see that Welsh is the first language spoken (English being the second). Indulge in new activities. Dive into exciting history. Savor delicious and unique treats. From gorgeous coastlines to towering castles, and from rugged mountains to sacred burial tombs, your family is in for a fun-filled adventure they won’t soon forget.
(Remember, we can customize any of our travel packages to suit your tastes and desires. Just let us know.)
customizable itinerary
Enjoy the flight from your home country to Cardiff, Wales (usually an overnight flight). Make things even easier on yourself and ask us about including airfare and travel insurance into your travel package to Wales.
Welcome to Wales! Or, in the native language, “Croeso i Gymru.” Yes, in Wales, you’ll see the Welsh language written before English, as Welsh is the official national language. Your private driver will meet you in Cardiff Airport and escort you to your modern, 5-star Cardiff Bay Hotel. The excitement begins right away. A 1-hour Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) ride will get that adrenaline flowing – a great way to get over jet lag this afternoon. Speed around Cardiff Bay and get that blood pumping! While you may get a bit wet, it’s all part of the fun, but you’re sure to disembark with a smile on your faces. We’ll provide some great recommendations for a low-key dinner, and then enjoy a good night’s sleep at your fabulous bayside hotel.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
After a full Welsh breakfast (included daily), meet up with your private local guide for a morning walking tour of the city. Tailored to your family’s interests, your expert local guide will show off Cardiff’s amazing landmarks. Amidst secret streets, local neighborhoods, architectural gems, and historic monuments, you’ll absorb the rich character of Wales’ capital city. In the afternoon, visit Cardiff Castle, a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion located in the city center. This morning after breakfast, check out of your Cardiff hotel and collect your rental car (or, if you prefer, we can organize a driver/guide for you for the remainder of your journey). You’ll first drive up to the Brecon Beacons National Park. This Welsh National Park is loved for its wide, green, open spaces which offer miles and miles of wonderful walking. Next you’ll visit a beautiful Welsh Hill Farm where you can see a sheepdog demonstration. You’ll learn how the farmer trains and works with these exceptionally talented and intelligent dogs to move livestock around the farm – an important part of farming. See a variety of dogs in different stages of their training and learn some of the basic commands. Then you will have the opportunity to command one of the dogs yourself – a very cool experience! In the evening, if the weather is clear, we suggest a drive up to Pen y Fan, South Wales’ highest point, and also one of the world’s Dark Skies locations, where you’ll be able to stargaze at the blanket of light coming from the night sky. From here, head to a beautiful 4-star country manor hotel for the evening.

In this falconry experience amidst the Cambrian mountains, you will not only learn more about these majestic creatures and why they are an important part of our eco system, but you’ll be taught how to fly one right to your gloved arm. One of the most important parts of a vacation is to relax. You’ve had quite a bit of active fun by now. Take the day to breathe in the fresh country air and simply enjoy your surroundings today. Perhaps explore a local nearby village or two, enjoy a nice long walk amid pastoral surroundings. (This might also be a good day to throw a load in the laundry, write a postcard or two, and pick up a few souvenirs.) Visit a farm shop, check out a waterfall, or enjoy a relaxing nap. (If you prefer to go, see, and do, we’ll happily provide recommendations.)

After a hearty Welsh breakfast, head out to your first adventure of the day. Explore the countryside with a leisurely horse ride through breathtaking scenery that provides excellent views across Snowdonia. After lunch, enjoy a different kind of ride… a unique train journey. You’ll have the opportunity (season dependent) to take the train from Llanberis to the top of the Snowdon, the highest summit in Wales (and higher than any summits in England). Your train will climb 1085 meters to the summit of Yr Wyddfa, a journey which has been experienced by about 12 million travelers since 1896. The ancient Snowdonian mountains, which have thrust upward by volcanic forces 450 million years ago, once grew to heights of 10,000 meters. Over eons the wind, rain and successive ice ages have sculpted them to their current form. Take in spectacular views both up and down the mountain. Return to your cozy Welsh village inn for the evening.

This morning, you’ll check out of your Betws y Coed inn, and “head to the beach.” But first, drive to the charming harbor town of Conwy. Here you will meet your local private guide for a tour to include Conwy Castle, the downtown area, a visit to the smallest house in Britain, and a climb on the town walls to get a great view of the area. Along your walk you will have the opportunity to try local foods, including the town’s legendary fresh seafood. In the afternoon, hop on board your chartered boat and be led by your skipper, a qualified Marine Biologist, as you take part in a lobster safari. Travel around the towering limestone cliffs of the Great Orme where you might spot active wildlife including seals, seabirds, and the famous Kashmiri goats that live wild on the Orme cliffs. Overnight in a great seaside hotel in Llandudno (Wales’ own version of the Boardwalk.)

Some kids dread their history lessons… but not this one! After breakfast, hop in the car and head west to the Isle of Anglesey. Anglesey has a number of ancient and archaeological wonders to explore. We recommend Barclodiad y Gawres. This Neolithic burial chamber is an example of a cruciform passage grave, a notable feature. Then get ready to slay a dragon. (Or at least think about it.) You’ll visit one of Wales most beautiful castles, Caernarfon Castle. The castle is, architecturally, one of the most impressive of all the Welsh castles. While its defensive capabilities were not as powerful as those of Edward I’s other castles such as Harlech or Beaumaris, Caernarfon was intended as a seat of power and as a symbol of English dominance over the (then subdued) Welsh. After exploring this stunning castle ruin, head back to Llandudno for a lovely evening exploring the town, its pier, its charming shops, and restaurants. Overnight again in Llandudno.
